“But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a noble thing for Me. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me. By pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she has prepared Me for burial. I assure you: Wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.””
Matthew 26:10-13 HCSB
I cannot tell you how many times I have felt and believed that living my life as a worship leader is LESS than noble. I have spent my whole life wondering if following this calling is enough. I mean, God calls me to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, bring freedom to captives, and bind up the broken. I will do this as often as I have opportunity. But, my ultimate and primary calling and gifting is in worship ministry.
THIS woman and her story of giving something that many saw as frivolous is such an encouragement to me. In times when I am pouring out my heart, my pain, or my adoration and receive questioning looks or even disdain; I remember this story. I can hear the voice of God telling me that He is worthy of my worship regardless of what others think of me; because it isn’t about me.
What about you? How are you worshipping today? What are you bringing to Jesus? Please, do not waste your life believing that what God has gifted you with is a waste of time. Because, WHAT A WASTE it would be for you to neglect your purpose for living simply due to the sideways glances of others. Do not be ashamed of your calling. Worship in whatever capacity God asks you to. It is a priceless pursuit.
